Linux LiveCD Recommended Over Microsoft For Safe Electronic Banking

Rebootable OS Disk RecommendedThe number of cyber threats that plague Microsoft's operating systems is already well-known. The prestigious Washington Post recommends using Linux LiveCD to perform electronic banking operations.

This approach would avoid most of the threats, because in a LiveCD normally data from previous sessions are not stored. It will be an execution by the operating system on the disk as if we used it for the first time, making our session very safe.

A security expert has written an article for the Washington Post in which he presents the problems many banks and their customers have due to the numerous cyber attacks and vulnerabilities listed for the Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Brian Krebs, the author of the article clearly states that to avoid fraud and banking problems the simplest and most effective solution is "do not use Microsoft Windows when you access your bank account online”.

Krebs explains that the majority of cyber attacks are aimed at the Microsoft developments, which is the operating system used by the vast majority of users and therefore are more likely to result in data leaks and that sooner or later end up opening the doors of our PCs to remote attackers. This makes the electronic banking operations particularly sensitive, and to avoid the dangers, nothing better than to use a Linux LiveCD, a method that avoids virtually all risks of remote attacks.

In fact, the SANS Technology Institute, an organization dedicated to research and education on security issues challenged their students to create a report to discover the most effective methods for SMEs to protect themselves from such mitigating attacks. The solution is cheap: to use a bootable operating system read-only, such as Knoppix or the Linux LiveCD.

These CDs allow the sessions to start with a completely "virgin" operating system, since after each session it deletes all data that we could have introduced. As many users already know, you can make these discs that have certain characteristics "persistent" in order to keep certain data and settings in other sessions, but if you disable this option we can have even greater security.

Bottom line, the use of LiveCDs is very suitable for your electronic banking operations.
