Do you want to design the ultimate garden but don't know where to start? Then this guide by OZCAR's gardening expert will show you just how.
Garden designed for different activities
First you need to identify what you wish to use the garden for. Do you want a place to put your coffee table so you may sit there at night and read a book? Or do you want to have a swing in your garden, with creeping vines growing over it giving the illusion that the swing actually grew out from the ground? We wouldn't recommend sitting on it though.
Entrances and walkways of the garden should be clearly visible
The entrance and exits of the garden should be prominent so that no one steps on the well laid grass or plant beds.
Be aware of your surroundings
You may have to grow some tall plants to hide the neighbour's garage wall, or a few hedges to maintain your garden's privacy. Take note of these points before you start laying out any plans.
Take photos
Taking photos is a good technique in helping figure out how you can decorate your garden. Take some photos and then super impose images of plants and trees of your choice into the original photo to see how your garden will look when it is finished.
Remember fragrance
When you design your garden, apart from the colours of the trees and plants, fragrance is important too. So go for highly fragrant flowers like lilies, roses or lavender. Adding these will give your garden a refreshing and more natural feel.
Go small
When you plan for a garden don't think bigger is better as it will require higher maintenance costs and more upkeep on your part. It's better to go for a small well maintained garden than a large unmaintained one.
Create your own view
Don't have a great view? Well then use your garden to create your own view. Plant trees and beautiful flowers in such a manner that you have created your own scenic private garden retreat.
Don't clutter your garden
Avoid putting too much furniture or garden accents in your garden as it will clutter it up and give an organized look. Gardens are to showcase nature's beauty, not silly gnomes.
