Tesla Roadster Production Halted Until 2013

Roadster by TeslaIt is expected that next year Tesla Motors Inc. will deter the production of the sleek electric sports car, the Tesla Roadster, that was first unveiled in 2006. Tesla didn't actually hush the news but neither did they broadcast it.

"We do not plan to sell our current generation Tesla Roadster after 2011 due to planned tooling changes by a supplier for the Tesla Roadster," the Palo Alto Company said in its filing for an initial public offering on Friday.

According to the company, "It will be 2013 before any new Roadsters can be built".

The Roadster is built at a Lotus plant in Hethel, England. It has sold 937 of the $109,000 Roadsters which can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in less than 4 seconds and travel a distance of 400km on a single charge.

Tesla is unable to manage the costs of the engineering design changes in the Roadster. Tesla's verdict to cease the production of Roadster for a seven seater sedan seems kind of dire as the Model S does not have any podium yet.
