Yamaha YZ1Yamaha is a veteran in producing classy bikes and they have outdone themselves with the mean machine in FZ1. The liquid cooled 998 cc engine as been made ultra-lightweight and has been tilted to a slight 40 degree angle. The output of 150 HP at 10,000 rpm is no mean feat.

The actual performance starts at around 8000 rpm and goes on till the red line at 12000 rpm. You can feel the world spinning by on the FZ1 out in the back roads. It comes with a soft rev limiter that protects the engine.

The EXUP exhaust system that Yamaha has employed on this machine produces a vroom high enough to race your blood and has you pumping for more. The fuel injection is what Yamaha had featured in the R1 and has computer controlled sub- throttle valves. Overall, the system performs without a hassle and produces instant throttle responses.

The six speed gear box has the 5th and 6th gears at a slightly taller position to provide a comfortable ride on the freeways. The transmission is topnotch and the shifting was smooth.

The suspension is fully adjustable and the rear Kayaba shock takes care of it adequately. (Though it might need some setting adjustments to take on the potholes of your average city road).

A single rear disc and a monoblock caliper take care of the braking which is quite impressive.

Yamaha has a record of manufacturing great looking bikes and this continues with the FZ1 as well. The tank and upper fairing give the bike a curvey design that sure makes heads turn. The good looks continue with the exhaust system as well.

Weighing 240kg, the FZ1 has aluminium frames that are both rigid and lightweight. The weight does not deter the bike from taking the curves at your own speed but the wide motor-cross style bars give stability and maneuverability on the city roads as well. The foot pegs and handle bars ensure that you can endure a long ride without feeling cramped on your FZ1.

The dash of the Yamaha FZ1 is the usual with the usual array of digital speedometer, odometer, indicators, warning lights and analog tachometer.

Overall the Yamaha FZ1 may not look like the tough kid but it sure is a fighter and comes out victorious in any kind of situation!
