The Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) are high on grunt owing to the V8 engines and the powerful six cylinder turbo charged Falcon engines. The 5.4 litre Boss V8 at the moment produces a power output of 315 kW at 6500 rpm and the power output for the turbo engine is 310 kW at 5500 rpm.
The FPV come with enhanced safety features to go with its sporting performance. Every model is equipped with electronic stability control that is calibrated dynamically. The FPV versions comes with six airbags. Brembo brakes have improved the braking performance drastically as well.
The performance is improved due to the Boss V8 engine. The increase in redline from 6000 to 6500 rpm is the main reason for this. The engine is fitted with air filters that have a very low loss. Exhaust is straight through and the stainl headers are renewed. This has contributed to increase in the compression ratio from 10.5:1 to 10.8:1. This in turn has increased the lift and camshaft duration. Air capacity is improved by adding a twin plate throttle. As there is no loss in intake air velocity.
The torque produced is 551 Nm at 4750 rpm. The V8 version has improved drastically but they have a long way to go in comparison to the HSV V8. However the upgrades still deserves some appreciation.
The FPV ute is not designed well for aerodynamics and has lower efficiency. Still the ute has improved in fuel efficiency by seven and nine percent for the V8 and F6 versions. The mileage for the six speed auto transmission F6 is 12.1L/100 km and that for the V8 is 14.0L/100 km.
The interior is comfortable and have well supported sport seats. The car gadgetry is affordable and includes satellite navigation and iPod integration.
Younger customers are targeted by for the turbo charged F6 model. It comes with an increased power output of 40kW over the earlier BF FPV model. This engine is ideal when performance tops the priority list. The instantaneous thrust overshadows that of the V8 and is even better than the HSV.
No matter what one says about the quality or looks of FPV F6, it surely has a great future. It can attain a status for itself solely on the basis of its rapid acceleration. The F6 is optimistic to attain the pickup speed of 0 to 100 km/h in less than five seconds.
The Ford Falcon FPV F6 is currently available through Ford Australia in 6 great color options.
