Ford has improved a lot the performance of its ute since it first launched the XF XR6 pickup. It then had a steering box instead of the rack and pinion. It was huge, had hard steering and would pose a few problems on uneven terrains.
The latest Ford FG XR6 introduced in 2009 has a much more sophisticated and improved steering , better suspension and traction control giving a much more comfortable ride than all previous XF versions.
Blue thunder
The most attractive feature is the car's electrifying blue color with tinges of mica added to produce a superb effect. The front bumpers are very stylish and well fitted. The rear bumpers are designed for a sporty look. The exterior mirrors match the body color. Fog lights come as standard feature in XR6.
Inside the Ford FG XRG
The cabin has received a very good treatment and is very roomy and comfortable. The standard model comes with cloth covered sporty seats which can be upgraded to leather at extra cost. The instrumentation is simple, easily readable and user friendly. A multifunction trip computer is provided to obtain useful information like cabin temperature and fuel consumption. The standard sound system is of prestige grade with MP3 compatible six disc changer and 112 watt six speaker system. Windows and exterior mirrors are power operated. Front airbags are a standard feature while the side airbags can be accommodated at an additional price.
The best feature however is the space provided at the back of seats. The space is big enough to accommodate two small size suitcases or carry sufficient luggage for a weekend drive.
XF XR6 Engine
The fuel injected DOHC engine produces a power output of 195 kW at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 391 Nm at 3250 rpm. The XR6 has a five speed auto transmission. The shifting is smooth and can be controlled via a central console lever. The pick up from 0 to 100 km is barely six seconds. The Ford XR6 is very powerful when it comes to high-speed cruising and overtaking. Handling is hassle free even on corners due to the precise power steering. The Ute has four wheel disc brakes that perform well with electronic brake force distribution and ABS anti lock system. The off road mileage is around 8.8 L/100 km. In the city the mileage is about 12.9 L/100 km. The towing capacity is 2300 kg in braked condition and 1000 kg in braked condition.
