How to Protect your Personal InformationThe age of internet and electronics has brought a great revolution in our daily lives. Managing finances has never been so easy and fast as it is today.

However, as every kind of data and information is becoming digitized, there are chances of people stealing our personal and financial information. Hence, it is vital that we take effective measures to safeguard ourselves against such theft of information. Following points are hereby recommended for an effective protection:

  • Don’t give your credit card number or any other personal identification number in an email that is not from a reliable source.
  • Memorized your password and PIN and do not save it in your mobile phone.
  • It is necessary that you tear off the credit card receipt and such other receipts after use so that nobody grabs your personal data from it.
  • Rather than collecting your checks and drafts through your mailbox, make sure these are directly delivered to your bank.
  • You cards, like debit and credit card, phone card, etc must be handled and used with care. The information and PIN should not be accessed by anyone else.
  • When you request for a new card, make sure it reaches you within appropriate time. If it is delayed, you must track if it is misplaced.
  • If you are going to send a check to someone, don’t drop it in your mailbox; rather post it from the main post office.
  • Do not write your phone number on checks.
  • Don’t give your personal details to anyone whom you don’t know very well.

Take the above recommended measures and keep yourself safe from identity theft. Otherwise, your personal information may be stolen and may be used to apply for loans, mortgages, contracts and even for criminal practices without your knowledge. So be careful and be vigilant.
